13
Here
are the last few verses--
Jesus said,
"Now the Son of Man is seen for who he is,
and God seen for who he is in him.
The moment God is seen in him,
God's glory will be on display.
In glorifying him, he himself is glorified--glory all around!
"Let
me give you a new command: Love one another.
In the same way I loved you, you love one another.
This is how everyone will recognize that
you are my disciples--
when they see the love you have for each other."
What
was new about Jesus' command?
What
was significant about the timing of the command?
What
events took place in the first part of this chapter?
John's
text strategically places this love commandment immediately after
two profound demonstrations of love by Jesus-
The
Jesus who loved the disciples had just finished gently, humbly washing
their dirty, dusty feet.
The Jesus who loved them had sent judas out to betray him without
reprimand or condemnation, but only with the admonition, "Do
Quickly what you are going to do."
The
newness of this command is not the love directive or its presence
in Jesus' preaching.
It
is the new FOCUS and SCOPE--
Jesus commands us to love "as I have
loved you"
Jesus'
love is Divine Love.
Incarnational
Love
Each
of the R & D Teams put

wants us to put
Christ into our love

one another.
