Hand Power

piano

drill

shovel

A hand-powered radio and light.

Just crank the handle two minutes for an hour of AM/FM and shortwave and a light!

In a day of digital dynamos there is still
power in purposeful prayer.

Hand powered prayer!

What do hands have to do with
our conversation with God?

I will spread out my hands in prayer to the LORD .

The thunder will stop and there will be no more hail,

so you may know that the earth is the LORD's.

Exodus 9:29

"Yet if you devote your heart to him
and stretch out your hands to him,
if you put away the sin that is in your hand
and allow no evil to dwell in your tent,
then you will lift up your face without shame;
you will stand firm and without fear.

Job 11:13-15

I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands .

Psalm 63:4

Hands represent control.

A closed hand, a fist
defiance
refusal to relinquish authority

Open hands expose your vulnerablity
no hidden weapons
surrender

Raised hands
"pick me up, daddy"

Moses knew about hand generated power.
There was intense fighting between the
Amalekites and the Israelites.

Moses went to the top of the hill
above the battle field.
In his hands he held high the rod.

The rod of God.

The rod that became a poisonous snake
at the burning bush.

The rod that turned the rivers of Egypt into blood.

The rod that parted the Red Sea.

The rod that struck the Rock of Water.

The rod of God.

In his raised hands he held the rod of God.

When Moses' lowered his hands,

the Israelites began to lose the battle,

when he raised his hands again,

the Israelites were winning the battle.

Exodus 17:8-16

The fifth letter of the Hebrew Alef-Bet is called Hey.

The ancient way this letter was drawn
was a word picture.

A picture of a man with his hands lifted up.

Behold!

When placed in the middle of

another word picture it means

Reveal!

el a word for God,

(read from right to left)

used over 350 times in the Bible

elohim

elah

eloah

alef

lamed

the word picture tells us that
God: strong authority

But what word do you have

when the word picture hey is placed

in the middle of the word for God?

Tabernacle:
the heart of God revealed

What is the New Testament Tabernacle?

You are!

You reveal the heart of God

Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple
and that God's Spirit lives in you?

1 Corinthians 3:16

You reveal the heart of God

Are you standing on a hill,

acknowledging God's power

and interceding for your friends and family?

Are your hands and arms aching?

Aaron and Hur held up Moses' tired arms.

The battle was won.

Who is there for you?

The LORD himself goes before you
and will be with you;
he will never leave you nor forsake you.
Do not be afraid;
do not be discouraged.

Deuteronomy 31:8

pick me up daddy!

The ancient Hebrew picture word
hey in the middle
of the word for father

love: the father's heart revealed
