fat baby

Food, ahhh, love to eat!

For lunch today, we had:

lasagne, bubbly cheesy . . . ohhh

mac 'n cheese . . . yummy

salad . . . fresh, crisp

crossaints . . . does life get any better?

oh, and chocolate kiss cookies!

are you drooling?

God was so good to give us the pleasure of food!

During World War II, the American soldiers were given more than bullets just before they went into combat.

They were given a chocolate bar.

It makes sense, when you think about a sugar rush, when they need all the energy they could muster. So, maybe sugar's not all that bad.

Of course, if you give it to a man just before he's about to go and lie on the couch for a hour - now that's bad.

That's the funny thing about sugar.

You eat it, you exercise - it's energy.

the energy machine

. . . kika bob, kika bob. . .
. . . popachewy, popachewy. . .
. . . naka, naka, naka. . .

You eat it and just lie there - it's fat.

God has a lot of fat kids -
because there's no converting of food into energy.

We're not talking physical pounds.

Spiritually, too many of us are loading up on spiritual food,
but not converting it into action.

oh yea, chocolate fondue . . . !

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth;
meditate on it day and night,
so that you may be careful to do
everything written in it.
Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Joshua 1:8

God says, I want you to meditate on this.

That means, chew it like a cow chews their food over and over again. In the original Hebrew language, chew it until you're ready to digest it.

He says, I want you to think about my words. I want you to talk about it. Don't let it depart from your mouth.

And then He says, "All of this is so you will do something because of what you read."

Now most of us get a wonderful diet of Bible teaching. We feast on sermons, Bible study, and tapes, and books, and seminars

But you could have a notebook full of Bible notes,
and a life that is strangely empty of any real change
in your relationships,
or your finances,
very little change in your pet sin,
or your attitude,
your temper,
your pride,
your complaining.

Are we're just hearing it,
filing it,
and not applying it?
Are we just letting it turn into spiritual fat?

When it comes to the Bible, we've got lots of information but not much application.

We've stored all kinds of Bible information and it's turning to fat.

But when you make it a daily discipline to put a verse to work, as soon as you consume it, well then like sugar, it turns into a rush of spiritual energy that will enable you to live more powerfully than you have ever lived before.

Here is something to consume:

So roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear, be totally ready to receive the gift that's coming when Jesus arrives. Don't lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn't know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God's life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness.

God said, "I am holy; you be holy."

You call out to God for help and he helps--he's a good Father that way. But don't forget, he's also a responsible Father, and won't let you get by with sloppy living.

Your life is a journey you must travel with a deep consciousness of God.

It cost God plenty to get you out of that dead-end, empty-headed life you grew up in. He paid with Christ's sacred blood, you know. He died like an unblemished, sacrificial lamb. And this was no afterthought. Even though it has only lately--at the end of the ages--become public knowledge, God always knew he was going to do this for you.

It's because of this sacrificed Messiah, whom God then raised from the dead and glorified, that you trust God, that you know you have a future in God.

1 Peter 1:13-21

Our verse for the week to memorize is:

God said, "I am holy; you be holy."

Spiritual Exercise

Fat Baby
by Amy Grant

I know a man, maybe you know him, too.
You never can tell; he might even be you.
He knelt at the altar, and that was the end.
He's saved, and that's all that matters to him.

His spiritual tummy, it can't take too much.
One day a week, he gets a spiritual lunch.
On sunday, he puts on his spiritual best,
And gives his language a spiritual rest.

He's just a faaa...
He's just a fat little baby!
Wa, wa, waaaaa....
He wants his bottle, and he don't mean maybe.
He sampled solid foods once or twice,
But he says doctrine leaves him cold as ice.
Ba, ba, ba, ba...ba, ba...ba, ba!

He's been baptized, sanctified, redeemed by the blood,
But his daily devotions are stuck in the mud.
He knows the books of the Bible and john 3:16.
He's got the biggest king james you've ever seen!

I've always wondered if he'll grow up someday.
He's momma's boy, and he likes it that way.
If you happen to see him, tell him I said,
He'll never grow, if he never gets fed.

He's just a fat, fat, fat, fat, fat, fa-at, fat...
Fat, fat, fat, fat, fat, fa-at, fat...
Fat, fat, fat, fat, fat, fat, faaaaat...
...baby...

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth;
meditate on it day and night,
so that you may be careful to do
everything written in it.
Then you will be prosperous and successful.
