If you were on a survival mission who would you pick to be your partner?
Who would be the last person that you would choose?
Since the beginning of time--choose the weakest link
--and get rid of it! 
We may not eliminate people around us
physically, but do we eliminate them mentally?
vote them off if they're not the
best,
smartest,
prettiest or handsome?
What criteria do we use to "accept"
our friends?
who is the weakest link?
who is the roadkill on the information highway?
who obviously skipped school and bail?
who's a few monkeys short of a circus?
who's all bun and no burger?

Remember Saul (later know as Paul)?
he blasphemed the Lord
destroyed the house-churches he uncovered
sent Christians to jail
had Stephen, an innocent young man, stoned to death
Paul boldy admits: "I'm the weakest link. I'm the biggest sinner"
Consider these other candidates:

Abraham and Sarah—A childless old couple become the parents of a nation.

Moses—A stuttering shepherd becomes the leader who stands up to the greatest power in the world of his day.

Esther—A dumb blonde who outwits a king, destroys his evil henchman, and saves her people.

David—A scandalous Lothario, a dreamy-eyed musician, "the Elvis of his day" (so says U2's Bono) becomes Israel 's greatest king.

Rahab—A prostitute who provides Israel with the means for victory over deadly enemies.

Jeremiah—A crazed and depressed prophet becomes the saving voice of sanity for the exiled Israelites.

Hosea—A hen-pecked husband whose heart-wrenching marriage gave people of faith a new perspective on love and loyalty.

Mary—A teenage unwed mother gives birth to the Son of God.

Peter—A dense as granite fisherman with a bull-in-a-china-shop personality who even betrayed his Lord becomes the rock of the church.
Do you get the joke?
The biggest joke of all?
God's ultimate ironic twist?
Jesus, the rejected one,
the crucified one, the stumbling block,
became the "cornerstone"
of faith and salvation for all humanity.
The joke is on us.
God uses the weakest to do the greatest.
In a world where we're supposed to focus on the powers within
and maximize our personal potential,
the Bible presents a much different--
yet much more liberating truth about our failures.
In a society that has no place for the weak,
a society that marginalizes the weak and dismisses the weak,
God does God's work in the world
with the weak and least and last.
Because of the extravagance of those revelations, and so I wouldn't get a big head, I was given the gift of a handicap to keep me in constant touch with my limitations. Satan's angel did his best to get me down; what he in fact did was push me to my knees. No danger then of walking around high and mighty! At first I didn't think of it as a gift, and begged God to remove it. Three times I did that, and then he told me,
My grace is enough; it's all you need.
My strength comes into its own in your weakness.
Once I heard that, I was glad to let it happen. I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ's strength moving in on my weakness. Now I take limitations in stride, and with good cheer, these limitations that cut me down to size--abuse, accidents, opposition, bad breaks. I just let Christ take over! And so the weaker I get, the stronger I become.
