Red Rope
Jericho, City of Palms

What do you remember about the city of Jericho?
Zaccheaus was a wee little man?
Jesus and the blind
Bartimaeus
of Jericho?
The Good Samaritan on the road to Jericho? . . . Joshua and the Israelites. . .and the walls came a tumblin' down!
Yes, it is all the same Jericho.
Ancient Jericho.
The "City of Palms" spreads out on the west side of the Jordan River at 825 feet below sea level.
The Old Testament site of Tell es-Sultan is in the distance and is the city Joshua destroyed. In Jesus' day a new center had been constructed on the wadi banks in the foreground by the Hasmonean rulers and Herod the Great. |

Archaeologists have carefully excavated
through 23
layers of ancient history.
Bryant Wood points to the base of that mudbrick wall.
All agree that the wall fell down, but they differ on the date.
Wood's conclusions are the most informed
and they date the destruction of the wall to the
time of Joshua (1400 B.C.)

the year '4004'
Archaeologists are illustrating the
"years" of history from 1004 through 4004

layers of history tell stories

A rich tapestry of stories,
stories that tell of God's Grace.
A red cord from a window
RAHAB
what do you remember about Rahab?
a business woman -- wove linen garments
maker of flax rope
a prostitute -- innkeeper
a liar?
a great, great --- great grandmother of Jesus! Joshua Chapters 2-6
Matthew 1
RED ROPE is Faith in the saving blood of Jesus Christ.
Rahab was saved by faith in God
and not by faith in that rope
dangling from her high window.
Hang the red rope of faith from the window of your heart
