World View

What do you see when you go
outside and look at the world?

Has it become so familiar to us that
we don't pay any attention to it?

When you see the blue sky--
do you think about the refraction of light?

When you see a frog--
do you think--Biology 101--muscles and bones?

Step back,
how do you see the world?

blue sky
green fields
brown earth
blue water

?

We challenged ourselves with a little
Art Experiment

Three Pictures

Three Journalists

Six Artists

Finger Paints

21 fine art prints

21 names of artists

and the Museum Curators

First, the Journalists each view their piece of art. Then they wrote a brief description of the art work.

handicap:
write a description but do not include
the exact number of buildings or
the color of sky

handicap:
write a description but do not include
the length of hair or the color of clothing

handicap:
write a description but do not include

the type of fruit or the color of background

Using only the written information, the artists finger painted a "copy" of the original piece of artwork.

Two artists got the description of the
Portrait

Two artists got the description of the
Landscape

Two artists got the description of the
Still Life

Meanwhile, the Museum Curators were framing and organizing 21 pieces of art work for the gallery.

They had to match the artist name
with the piece of art. That was a tough assignment!

They were given some clues.
They were given examples of other art work
done by the same artist.

Sometimes that helped!
Sometimes it made it more confusing!

Could you do it?

Finally the artists finished
their masterpieces

without help from the Journalists or the Artists,
the Curators had to match the
"copy" with the "original"
in the gallery that they had created!

You get into your car, and turn on the radio.

One station is playing music by
Thousand Foot Crutch.
You turn the dial and come to a station playing Bach.
You can tell the difference immediately.

Why?

If you are a student of Bach music and hear a piece by him that you have never heard before,
you might say,
"I'm pretty sure that's by Bach; it sounds like Bach."

The universe and everything in it
reveals the character of its Creator.

By taking a long and thoughtful look at what God has created, people have always been able to see what their eyes as such can't see: eternal power, for instance, and the mystery of his divine being.

Romans 1:20

God designed the universe to reveal Himself.
Sin has made us deaf and blind.

Jesus is the answer.

Jesus said,
"I am the Road, also the Truth, also the Life. No one gets to the Father apart from me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him. You've even seen him!"

John 14:6-7

God is revealed.
Is it that easy?

Like the "artwork descriptions" sometimes it seems that there are "handicaps" that limit the
Bible from being specific.

How do we know what God really means?

Because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power,
with the Holy Spirit
and with deep conviction.

1 Thessalonians 1:5

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you all things
and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 14:26-17

God speaks.

God moves.

God is beautiful.

we respond.

we create.

we worship.
