The Greatest Humanitarian Disaster
of Our Time
More than 14 million children have lost one or both parents to the AIDS pandemic. Many more are left vulnerable as family resources are stretched thin to care for these orphans. It is estimated that by 2010, the number of orphans will more than double to 25 million.
Most of these children are not infected with HIV/AIDS; however, they are malnourished or sick, and vulnerable to exploitation. Every day is a struggle for survival.

one out of every three children is an orphan
- During 2001, AIDS caused the deaths of an estimated 3 million people, including 1.1 million women and 580,000 children under 15
