The Year of the Monkey
In the tradition of celebrations,
we decorated the room with
bamboo trees,
flowers,
and oranges
our red envelope gifts
for God
and of course. . .
a banquet of fabulous
Chinese food!
Egg rolls
Egg Foo Yong
Sweet and Sour Chicken
Pancit
Lo Mein
and rice! 
Heaven and Hell
A fable from China. |
A long time ago there was a man who had a good heart. Because of this he was granted his greatest wish. He wished to see heaven and hell before he died.
First he was taken to hell. What a strange place it was! It looked like a big restaurant, with round tables covered with delicious food. There were steaming platters of spring rolls, pork, chicken, shrimp, rice. But nobody was eating any of this good food. The people in hell sat around the tables holding chopsticks that were so long, they reached to the middle of the tables. They couldn't bring the food from their plates to their mouths.
Then he was taken to heaven. Heaven looked just like hell, with round tables covered with wonderful food,
and people holding super-long chopsticks. But here, everyone was eating happily, and laughing together.
The man looked and wondered. Then he understood the true difference between heaven and hell.
Can you guess what it is?

Not only can you celebrate a New Year
you can celebrate a new day--
EVERY DAY!
It's a Good Thing to Hope for Help from God
I'll never forget the trouble, the utter lostness,
the taste of ashes, the poison I've swallowed.
I remember it all--oh, how well I remember--
the feeling of hitting the bottom.
But there's one other thing I remember,
and remembering, I keep a grip on hope:
GOD's loyal love couldn't have run out,
his merciful love couldn't have dried up.
God's love is created new every morning.
How great your faithfulness!
I'm sticking with GOD (I say it over and over).
He's all I've got left.
GOD proves to be good to the man who passionately waits,
to the woman who diligently seeks.
It's a good thing to quietly hope,
quietly hope for help from GOD.
It's a good thing when you're young
to stick it out through the hard times.
When life is heavy and hard to take,
go off by yourself. Enter the silence.
Bow in prayer. Don't ask questions:
Wait for hope to appear.
Don't run from trouble. Take it full-face.
The "worst" is never the worst.
Why? Because the Master won't ever
walk out and fail to return.
If he works severely, he also works tenderly.
His stockpiles of loyal love are immense.
He takes no pleasure in making life hard,
in throwing roadblocks in the way

see yourself as the creative type? It's OK, you will still
feel blessed during the worship experience at red.
